To make the Ouse Burn way a reality + raise proirity you will need to concentrate on one or two key projects rather than a plethora of small projects. Success in this will feed other projects
The prioritising of a cycleway. If the project and the cycleway is to be trully inclusive and suitable for cyclists, wheelers and pedestrians of all ages and ability then the cycleway needs to be segregated from motor trafic. Note Ouse Burn road could be closed and motor vehicle access maintained to the allotments – they are not mutually exclusive.
A lot. It’s an exciting project thanks. Improvement to water quality alone would be a huge step forward. I would love to see more nature tree planting wherever possible to suport the green corridor, nature species. Perhaps at the stadium site and elsewhere. can something be done to improve movement of nature through lower Ouse Burn? Gradual removal of invasive species would be great.
Improving water quality. Ecology. Access and well being. Have concerns about – unrealised development, lighting, flooding is effecting access. The area north of Salters bridge is significantly changing in general flooding and a hydrophysical report would be a good idea.
It’s a good idea but as was made clear it needs to ensure that all affected and interested parties are consulted and listened. The oportunities for cleaning up the river is fantastic & I’m sure it’s right to make it the first priority.
The ambition of the project – love the joined up thinking + spirit of co operation. Regenerating buildings at Jesmond Dene. Could create national interest and inspiration
As a retired landscape architect and resident next to dene for over 40 years, I feel very enthusiastic and gratful about this proposal. The path and routes through the area need a lot of attention to make safe and interesting. There are huge socal issues, vandalism, fly tipping, anti social behaviour that also need addressing. increased access would worsen this. the rewilding maintanance is mis-understood by the general public who is devaluing the overall policy for nature

Our in-depth brochure outlines all of our proposed plans and aims to:

  • Define the potential of the Ouse Burn and the Letch as a major recreational resource of benefit to the residents of Tyne and Wear
  • Seek the support of all those bodies with an interest in the area to agree a comprehensive strategy that meets local and national objectives and secures the long term development and maintenance of the corridor
  • Work closely with local communities in the evolution of the project
